Tag Heuer’s Connected smartwatch Is A League Apart

Luxury’s first smartwatch hits all the right buttons.

When luxury watch brands started announcing plans for their wearable tech this year, many assumed it was simply playing catch-up with the dedicated tech giants. But that’s not the case with the Tag Heuer Connected, because this luxury smartwatch is more than smart enough to challenge its mass market competitors.

Modelled after the brand’s famous Carrera models and made in partnership with Google and Intel, the Connected combines traditional watch styling with cutting-edge digital guts. While users have easy access to over 4,000 Android apps through Google Play, they may want to make room for the watch’s own Insiders app, which offers travel, fashion and dining tips in almost 300 cities around the world. It is also remarkably comfortable on the wrist, thanks to its grade 2 titanium case. And its sapphire crystal touchscreen works much better in bright sunlight, compared to many existing smartwatches.

But perhaps the best feature of the Connected is its trade-in programme. The watch has a two-year warranty, but owners can opt to swop their smartwatch for a mechanical one (a real Carrera) for another US$1,500 ($2,200). Or for those who enjoy the modern usability, the watch can simply be upgraded with nextgeneration tech. This renewabilty means it will not be obsolete anytime soon.
