[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]fter debuting the posher of two sister hotels with The South Beach last year, City Developments Limited last week launched the edgy, technology-driven M Social Singapore.

The target audience is millennials and evidence is everywhere in the hotel’s design. Catering to a do-it-yourself, selfie generation that gravitates towards communal spaces and social media shares, M Social at Robertson Quay goes big on public areas –the lounge cum dining room takes up the breadth of the lobby – as well as technology in its self-serve check-in.

Meanwhile, the hotel’s 293 guestrooms, some of which come with a terrace and as a loft, are just big enough for two guests and their luggage. The sink, traditionally meant for the bathroom, is situated outside to maximise the use of space. The mini fridge is empty of alcohol in anticipation that guests will stock their own.

Certainly, this design is not for folks accustomed to butler service and sumptuous living quarters, but if one’s reason for travel is meeting like-minded people and painting the town rainbow with a comfortable place to check in at the end of the day or night, M Social may provide that connection. www.msocial.sg
