What started two years ago as a week-long cultural showcase celebrating the British Club’s 30th anniversary has turned into a much anticipated annual affair culminating in a charity ball. The inaugural dinner was headlined by Britain’s premier spy and cultural icon – James Bond. This year, Royal Ascot, that quintessential British social gathering, gets the spotlight. Gala organisers expect more than 400 guests, with money raised going to the Riding for the Disabled Association in Singapore and the Gurkha Welfare Trust in the UK. The ball will cap nine days of activities that involve the likes of royal milliner Vivien Sheriff, celebrity chef Paul Askew, comedian Pete Price and former Arsenal legend Ray Parlour.
