    Here’s the thing about orange wine: It’s a bit of a misnomer, seeing how the wine is not made from, well, oranges. It’s made using white grapes; these are mashed – skins and seeds included – and left in cement or ceramic vessels for a year or more. Little to no additives are used, so orange wines have a nuttier and slightly sour profi le, thanks to oxidation. In Australia, progressive winemakers are starting to pick up on this natural style of winemaking, working primarily with sauvignon blanc.
