Burgers and Burgundy

If anyone can make burgers and burgundy seem like they belong together, it’s the team at Mandarin Oriental’s Axis Bar and Lounge. The limited-time Burgers and Burgundy special includes a trio of sliders – teriyaki chicken, lamb and wagyu beef – with a glass of Burgundy-style pinot noir to go with each. Diners can select their own label from the bar but a sommelier will be on hand to suggest a suitable bottle. As a general rule, we would recommend something light, like the Argentinian Rebel, to go with the sweet chicken patty, and something powerful (we had Traditionalist from Burgundy) for the lamb burger as the Indian spices in it can hold their own against a full-bodied wine while its fattiness goes well with the wine’s lively acidity. But the real fun is in the experimentation, so head down before the end of July for this refreshing pairing.
