Food takes me round the world, which is why I feel beholden to all the hawkers and chefs who put fragrant Singapore on my map, to lead me back home every time. So what better way to celebrate Singapore’s jubilee year than with a celebration of the talents who make Singapore a compulsory destination for all travelling gourmets?

The 50 trailblazers in 50 For #SG50 – restaurateurs, new-generation food producers, veteran food critics, chefs – keep our palates excited. Some are based overseas, such as award-winning London-based chef Cherish Finden and Michelin-star chef Albert Tse in Tokyo, and make great ambassadors for our dining scene.

Of course, some of these talents are tucked away in home kitchens, but produce no less memorable a meal than chefs do. In this issue, the G team visits the kitchens of three gifted home cooks for their tips on the best tools and equipment for cooking like a pro at home, featured in Show And Tell.

I had the immense pleasure recently of savouring the Peranakan cooking of co-concertmaster of Singapore Symphony Orchestra Lynnette Seah, who stirs magic in her kitchen like she does on her violin strings.

What I also cherish about the Singapore dining scene is how my taste buds can “travel”, without leaving the country. French imports Angelina and La Cure Gourmande, and New York restaurant Clinton Street Baking, are the latest reasons not to book a flight every time a long weekend comes along.
