CHAND BAORI STEPWELL, ABHANERI, RAJASTHAN, INDIA

Located near a temple in Abhaneri, Chand Baori Stepwell is a historical centre of social life for the locals, who meditatively descend the myriad steps to reach the water.
“The place immediately reminded me of the graphic work of the artist Maurits Cornelis Escher, notably expressed through his art of creating optical illusions through playing with lines. The Indian women we met appeared to be lost amid the vastness of the monument. These are definitely the most beautiful and awe-inspiring staircases I have ever seen. The architects worked miracles in creating a work of pure beauty.”

The 12 locations each symbolise the 12 hour markers on the face of the iconic Overseas World Time collection – a true traveller’s watch with 37 time zones – and also celebrate the spirit of travel celebrated by the maison. In this exclusive preview, we showcased the first six locations of McCurry’s journey, and his insights of the place.
