The first boutique is due to open on October 13 in Zurich, while the second will launch in Amsterdam on November 3, and both will remain open through January 27.

At the pop-up shops, visitors will be able to explore an array of bases, shell colors and upholsteries, then combine them as desired to create their own personalized Plastic Chairs. Physical displays will allow them to see their options in the flesh, while digital ordering will enable visualisation of more than 100,000 configurations, according to Vitra.

Among the most iconic designs of the 20th century, the Eames Plastic Chairs were created by the design duo for a competition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and are the first plastic chairs to be created using industrial methods.
