Wine heritage takes centre stage at Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas’ latest resort in Portugal. Six Senses Douro Valley fronts on to River Douro as it winds through the world’s oldest demarcated wine region, a Unesco World Heritage site. Embracing its historical location, the property marries romantic 19th-century architecture with contemporary interiors and every modern amenity.

At the heart of the resort is The Wine Library, where guests are guided through the varieties and styles by leading Portuguese winemakers from the surrounding valley, and the resort’s wine directors. A wide selection of wines by the glass, paired with local charcuterie and cheeses, completes an authentic Douro Valley experience. The Six Senses Spa comprises 10 treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, and a gym spread out over 2,200 sq m. It features locally inspired, grape-based treatments, with grapes freshly picked from the Douro vineyards.

It now houses luxurious guest rooms, a fine-dining restaurant and wellness spa, and is situated on a pristine private beach. There’s plenty to explore both in the hotel and out, from a well-stocked wine cellar and indoor seawater pool to private sailing tours around the coast on a chartered yacht.

Close to Nature in the Serengeti

Wildebeest

Every year from July to October, the great plains of Africa play host to one of the greatest wonders of the world: The Great Migration. This is the biggest movement of animals on the planet, where over 200 million wildebeest journey from Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, cross Mara River, and into Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. Luxury tour operator Lightfoot Travel’s seven-night safari will let you get close to the action from the comforts of two luxury tented camps located in prime game-viewing areas. Enjoy a bush breakfast looking out over the plains and watch the game from a distance, and relax with a swim and massage after game drives and local tribe visits in the day. Prices start from US$6,040 (S$8,400).
