01. THE GREATER GOOD

The concept of “green garment” is not new, but Stefano Pilati wants to take it one step further. For his autumn collection, the creative director of Ermenegildo Zegna homes in on the man who wants to actively engage with the natural world.

To that end, his Couture Fall/Winter 2015/16 collection showcases fabrics that are earth-friendly yet advanced (no hemp here), and designs with an outdoorsy, utilitarian aesthetic.

Certain coats, for instance, feature classic Harris Tweed patterns, made from recycled cashmere and coated with a plastic finish – also recycled, of course. Pilati continues to expand on his Broken Suit concept, with jackets in cotton velvet and trousers in velvet corduroy, done in autumnal greens and browns.

It’s the kind of thoughtful and inspired style that we have come to expect from Zegna, and fans have a unique opportunity to gain greater insight into the Italian brand this Formula One season. From Sept 18 to 20, Zegna’s Milan-based Su Misura stylist and specialist Daniele Siciliano will host guests at the Stamford Suite of the Swissotel. He will provide personal style consultations, as well as made-to-measure services. By appointment only. To book, e-mail mtm.singapore@zegna.com.

02. PURE AND SIMPLE

“Versace stripped”: That’s how designer Donatella Versace describes the Italian brand’s autumn pieces. So, instead of flamboyant graphics like last season’s Havana street scenes, a relatively muted palette takes centre stage for the season. This allows “shapes, silhouettes and sharpness” to stand out, whether in the form of footwear – the Versace sneaker is done entirely in leather, from laces to soles – or fur-lined quilted leather parkas.

03. FASHION FORWARD

From an ancient instrument used to make astronomical measurements to ’60s beat-music culture, myriad elements of the past serve as inspiration for Billionaire Couture’s autumn collection. One of the collection’s highlights, a silk shirt and jacket set, features a dramatic motif of the astrolabe, an instrument used by astronomers of the past. Styles associated with beat musicians and mod culture, on the other hand, inspire more everyday looks, such as a biker jacket and a fitted blazer with a leather lapel.

04. PLAY IT COOL

Clothing made for cooler climes can sometimes make you look like you’ve been having a good go at the dessert station. This will (hopefully) not be the case with the latest collection by Boss, which features tailored looks with an outdoorsy feel, inspired by chic alpine destinations from Aspen to St Moritz. Quilted winter sports coats are offered as a sleeker alternative to down jackets, while chunkier knits are cut close to the body for a more flattering form. Made from fine wools and defined by an elegant ease, tailored pieces look at home in a variety of settings, be it a ski resort or a wintry street.
