The Peak Selections: Gourmet & Travel is proud to present the G Top 100 Wines 2016, an awards ceremony held last night at the Sheraton Towers Grand Ballroom. This is the seventh year Gourmet & Travel has put out a definitive and authoritative list of the best of the best 100 wines. We were honoured to have the company of His Excellency, Dr Michael Witter (Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany) and His Excellency Miguel Navarro (Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain) to join us for the unveiling of the winning wines.

These top scoring wines were selected after being blind-tasted by our judging panel, consisting of 11 renowned wine experts including oenologist Edwin Soon, veteran wine connoisseur Tan Kah Hin, and Tan Ying Hsien, the first Singaporean to qualify as Master of Wine.

This year, 31 importer-distributors submitted a wide range of wines from 13 countries including France, Italy, the US, Australia, Germany and Spain, and other top wine regions. Among the top 100 wines, the judges singled out six outstanding labels that scored a grade as high as 18 points based on a 20-point scoring system. The wines that stood out in their respective categories were:

Red Wine of The Year
Rudolf Furst, Centgrafenberg Pinot Noir 2013
Wein & Vin

White Wine of The Year
Dopff Au Moulin, Pinot Gris Reserve 2014
Aether Wine & Spirits

Vintage Champagne of The Year
G.H.Mumm, Cordon Rouge 2006
Pernod Ricard Singapore

Sweet Wine of The Year
Jorge Ordonez & Co, No.3 Vinas Viejas 2008
Sensus Wine Studio

Fortified Wine of The Year (New World)
Olsen Wines, The Old Bailey 1998
Hockhua Wines

Fortified Wine of The Year (Old World)
Quinta Do Noval, Colheita 2000
The Straits Wine Company

After the awards ceremony, special gourmet creations were prepared for the guests to enjoy. The impressive live stations featured Li Bai’s succulent peking duck and The Dining Room’s marinated striploin with coffee luwak served with trio roasted potatoes. Selected winning distributors also had the chance to showcase their wines throughout the evening. As guests mingled and enjoyed the food and wine, they were serenaded by a live band.

Ms Amy Van, editor of The Peak Selections: Gourmet & Travel, said: “During the intensive two-day tasting session, the panel of experts identified a list of 100 wines – essentially a reflection of what makes a great wine, and one they would personally buy. A good number of wines selected were suitable for year-round enjoyment, and some of the wines that impressed came from Italy and Spain.”
