You may not have heard of American indie eyewear label Garrett Leight California Optical (GLCO), but chances are, you have heard of the eyewear brand Oliver Peoples. The relationship between the two: GLCO was started in 2010 by Garrett Leight, the son of Oliver Peoples founder Larry Leight.

Over the past decade, GLCO has become a cult name, thanks to its California-inspired easy-chic style and fine craftsmanship. The brand has plenty of famous fans, including the likes of Brad Pitt, Bruno Mars and Jeff Bezos. To mark its 10-year anniversary this year, GLCO has teamed up with luxury luggage-maker Rimowa on a capsule collection inspired by the surf culture and art scene of the Californian coast.

At the top of the list, of course, is eyewear. The collection comprises six pairs of sunglasses, including three metal and three acetate frames and lenses in shades such as green, blue or black. The  mid-sized, oval frames look stylishly understated with details such as a fine, curved top bar and slim metal arms.

And of course, the collection includes a suitcase: The Rimowa and Garrett Leight California Optical Essential Cabin Suitcase comes in a white glossy finish. Its contents are equally summery — this special edition comes with a pair of the collaborative sunglasses, as well as a set of accessories comprising a beach towel, surf wax, luggage stickers and a specially created luggage tag. Even though the current global situation probably means that most of us won’t be travelling anytime soon, it’s still a nice way to dream about your next island-resort vacation.

The GLCO and Rimowa sunglasses retail for $600 each, and the suitcase retails for $1,640. The collection also includes luggage sticker sets, retailing at $50 each. Available at select retail stores and online at www.rimowa.com and www.garrettleight.com.
