The scourge of the coronavirus continues to sweep the world, and one of the worst-hit industries, alongside travel and hospitality, is F&B. In these trying times, restaurants and bars are doing all they can to stay afloat — keeping levels of hygiene up with sanitisers on the table, more regular cleaning, and placing tables further apart. At Bar-Roque Grill, they’ve even invested in air and surface sterilisers.
“We are grateful for the support of our regulars, who have been very supportive and giving us suggestions … and ways they would like to have access to our food.” shares Stephane Istel, chef-partner at the restaurant.
Others, like the three Michelin-starred Les Amis, are offering special takeaway items (you can get a French roast chicken to go); or sweetening the deal for dining in, with the Il Lido group offering 30 per cent off the food bill at its outlets, complete with free corkage at restaurants.
If you, like us, have been making the best of the vibrancy of Singapore’s dining and drinking scene — and wish for it to stay that way in the near future — now’s the time to help chip in. Eat out (only if you’re feeling absolutely well and haven’t travelled in the past 2 weeks), order in, or even get your favourite chef to cook in your home.
Here’re all the ways you can still enjoy the food and drinks of your favourite bars and restaurants.
We’ll be updating this list as more restaurants and bars start their various programmes, so check in often!
Restaurant takeaway and delivery
Places that didn’t use to offer to-go items now are. Places that used to offer now have a wider selection.
Private chef services
Chefs from your favourite restaurants, cooking in the comfort of your own home.
One of the most direct ways to help your favourite restaurant is to buy gift vouchers. This provides an injection of cash, while giving you the option to dine when things get a little less scary.
Have your drinks to go
Perhaps the hardest hit now are bars – with the enforced one month closure of entertainment venues. Shares Michael Han of Plan B Asia, which distributes brands including Gosnells, Seedlip, and Empirical spirits, “we should evolve and adapt our way of life instead of letting the pandemic infringe upon it completely…if hotels, restaurants and bars are affected during the Coronavirus pandemic so are we in the f&b distribution business.”
Have your drinks to-go with these bars offering takeaway cocktails or wine delivery services. For the full craft cocktail experience, you can get the same dense, crystal-clear ice cubes that bars use, from ice suppliers Tuck Lee.
