Covid-19: Here’s what restaurants are doing to stay afloat

If you've been making the best of Singapore's F&B scene's vibrancy — and wish for it to stay that way — now's the time to help.

The scourge of the coronavirus continues to sweep the world, and one of the worst-hit industries, alongside travel and hospitality, is F&B. In these trying times, restaurants and bars are doing all they can to stay afloat — keeping levels of hygiene up with sanitisers on the table, more regular cleaning, and placing tables further apart. At Bar-Roque Grill, they’ve even invested in air and surface sterilisers.

“We are grateful for the support of our regulars, who have been very supportive and giving us suggestions … and ways they would like to have access to our food.” shares Stephane Istel, chef-partner at the restaurant.

Others, like the three Michelin-starred Les Amis, are offering special takeaway items (you can get a French roast chicken to go); or sweetening the deal for dining in, with the Il Lido group offering 30 per cent off the food bill at its outlets, complete with free corkage at restaurants.

If you, like us, have been making the best of the vibrancy of Singapore’s dining and drinking scene — and wish for it to stay that way in the near future — now’s the time to help chip in. Eat out (only if you’re feeling absolutely well and haven’t travelled in the past 2 weeks), order in, or even get your favourite chef to cook in your home.

Here’re all the ways you can still enjoy the food and drinks of your favourite bars and restaurants.

We’ll be updating this list as more restaurants and bars start their various programmes, so check in often!

Restaurant takeaway and delivery

Places that didn’t use to offer to-go items now are. Places that used to offer now have a wider selection.

  • Violet Oon

Violet Oon Singapore’s classic Peranakan favourites like Beef Hor Fun and Dry Laksa are now available for takeaway. Give thirty minutes notice before picking up your takeaways from their Bukit Timah branch. though we'd recommend you get it delivered with two hours notice. Now, you can get daily lunch options like Nyonya bento boxes to break the monotony of working from home; else, opt for their newly launched Shepherd's Pie trays that come in sizes for one, or three to five.

To order: email eat@violetoon.com or call 9834-9935

Private chef services

Chefs from your favourite restaurants, cooking in the comfort of your own home.

  • Braci restaurant

    Il Lido Group

Experience any of the restaurants — Art, Braci, and Amo — under the group in the comfort of your own home. They'll take care of everything from menu design, setting the table, service staff, to the cleaning up. You can even rent china and glassware; and chef Beppe de Vito himself is available for this service.

Call or email the restaurants for their respective menus.

Gift vouchers

One of the most direct ways to help your favourite restaurant is to buy gift vouchers. This provides an injection of cash, while giving you the option to dine when things get a little less scary.

  • Culina COMO Dempsey

    COMO Dempsey

You can now purchase vouchers of S$50 and S$100 for COMO Dempsey, which includes restaurants Candlenut, COMO Cuisine, Ippoh Tempura By Ginza Ippoh, The Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar and COMO Marketplace. Gift vouchers are valid for 6 months from issue.
