Where to eat breakfast: three new places in Singapore to check out

The luxury of a proper breakfast is understated – here are some new places for the most important meal of the day.

Breakfast can be coffee and a sandwich scarfed down at your desk; or it could a Tolkiensian affair, with heaping mounds of bacon, eggs, and toast. Allow yourself the luxury of the latter once in a while and hit these spots.

  • Omlette Arnold Bennett, Finest Quality Smoked Haddock

    The English House

We're not going to hide the fact that you can get an English-style breakfast almost at any cafe in Singapore, but few places do it with the same panache as The English House. Marco Pierre White has slapped his name on the project, so the first thing you naturally get is the classics done right: eggs benedict with proper, butter-rich hollandaise; and of course, a traditional full English breakfast complete with Wiltshire pork sausages, free-range, organic eggs (which are used for every item), and grilled mushrooms. There's even omelette Arnold Bennett – a savoury, creamy mess of eggs and smoked haddock that you'll be hard-pressed to find elsewhere in Singapore. If the eclectic, verdant decor isn't a good enough accompaniment to your breakfast, every order also comes with a choice of fresh juices, coffee, or tea; as well as extra sourdough bread.
