[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]t sold out on its first run in 2014 and bagged three awards during The Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards 2015 – Production of The Year, Production of The Year (Reader’s Choice) and Best Costume Design (for Thai design house Tube Gallery). Now, local theatre group Wild Rice’s Monkey Goes West returns for a month from Nov 18 to Dec 17, 2016 at the Drama Theatre Centre, showcasing a modern Singapore rendition of popular Chinese classic Journey to the West. The pantomime production features an amusing, friendly script by Wild Rice’s resident playwright Alfian Sa’at, coupled with martial art stunts performed by young talents from wushu academy Martial House.

Monkey Goes West is directed by Sebastian Tan of Broadway Beng fame and includes music by acclaimed composer Elaine Chan, a past winner of the Wong Yee Hua Memorial Music Excellence Award. For more information, visit www.wildrice.com.sg.
