This semi detached house, located amidst an encircling of mature rain trees and quiet sidewalks, was designed by the architects from A D Lab for a multi-generational family. Tasked to echo the spirit of the lushly planted Trevose Place neighbourhood, the team built a veranda which wraps around the exterior of the house. Carpeted in grass and strategically planted with greenery, the veranda circles three different levels and extends into a lawn on the main roof.
A large multi-generational family resides in the house, and much consideration had to be taken in order to meet their needs. A small courtyard brings light and air to the heart of the home.
The winding veranda acts as an extension of each room while visually unifying various spaces and areas of the house.
An artificial grass carpet covers the reading room floors to enhance the garden effect.
While the structure of the house meant that the garden had to be displaced, the architects managed to fit in a sheltered outdoor patio suitable for alfresco dining.
Wooden plank flooring extends from the patio to the side of the house where the swimming pool is, creating a pool deck effect.
A large, solid wood table is positioned in the middle of the dining room in order to facilitate family meals. The pairing of the raw-edged table and the abstract chandelier makes for a rustic yet contemporary atmosphere.
The dry kitchen is kept clean and simple, and is furnished with a long glass table. See-through chairs let ample natural light spill in, making the place seem more spacious.
The marble floors coupled with the high ceilings keep the space cool in Singapore’s tropical weather. A water feature spans the wall in the living room, adding texture and movement to the home.
