This 5,270 sq ft semi-detached house was designed by the architects from Monocot Studio for a multi-generational family. To accommodate the needs of the homeowners – working professionals, their parents and their two sons – the place was constructed to be simple and stylish, bringing about a touch of understated luxury with Japanese and Nordic hygge influence.
To keep things simple, the material selection was limited to marble, timber veneer and American white oak solid flooring exclusively. Apart from the bathrooms and kitchen, these materials feature throughout the house.
With a skylight letting in a generous supply of natural light, there is barely any need for artificial lighting during the day.
To allow an unfiltered stream of light into the house, Monocot Studio chose to utilise large windows and glass partitions instead of walls to separate the common rooms.
A spacious lounge area spans the second storey, a space free of clutter and void of excessive decoration. Maximising the space behind the stairway, the architects built in a table, which can be used for studying purposes. Generous floor-to-ceiling windows allow the home’s residents to gaze at the outdoor greens.
The walls are clad with timber veneer, and the
Light wood tones create a calm and relaxing atmosphere in the master bedroom.
The master bathroom is sleek, minimal, and accented with marble mosaic detailing. The room enjoys ample sunlight in the day.
The bedroom
The use of mosaic is a common theme for the bathrooms. The walls in this bathroom are decked with circular mosaic tiles in porcelain blue and white. A sink sits beneath a circular mirror.
Mirrors open up the space.
A white and grey colour palette is employed in the study room.
On the ground level, a dry kitchen leads opens to patio seating. To combat the hot tropical weather, a ceiling fan hangs above the outdoor table.
