Radiant, according to its maker Legrand, is the ‘first-to-market in-wall wireless charger’ that allows smartphones to be placed flush to the wall and charge at a 3.1A capacity.capacity.
Clutter created by cables is almost unavoidable in this day and age of connected devices, and as our electronics pile up, more chargers follow, not to mention the frustration when a charger is misplaced.
Legrand aims to address this issue with its Radiant Wireless Charger, which turns a single gang outlet into a Qi pad with a plastic clip that holds the phone upright, eliminating the need for cords and keeping devices off countertops.
For those less familiar with Qi (pronounced “chee”) it’s a way of wireless charging by transferring power from a charger to the device through inductive coupling. There are other ways but this particular technology has taken off and is now a standard in most recent phones.
The Radiant, like with many other charging stations, offers simultaneous charging via multiple access points, including two AC receptacles, one wireless charging pad and one USB port. When charging a non-Apple product, the charger will glow red, turning green once the device is fully juiced up.
The setup does require a little work however as the single gang outlet would need to be replaced and the charger installed, meaning this is a semi-permanent option. On one hand, it won’t get lost or misplaced but on the other, it’s not so easily transferred between rooms. There’s also the question of whether someone has an outlet at waist level that’s accessible. But for those constructing a new home, extra outlets could be placed in every room with Radiant Wireless Chargers in mind.
The product is compatible with all Qi compatible smartphones, including latest Apple models (iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus), Samsung, Sony, LG, Motorola, and Nokia devices.
