SIHH 2019 luxury watches

Greubel Forsey Balancier Contemporain

At 39.6mm, this is Greubel Forsey’s smallest watch to date, but that’s still plenty of room to show off the brand’s signature three-dimensionality and its large 12.6mm balance wheel, which was first seen in the 2017 Balancier. The beautifully decorated hand-wound movement is also equipped with a crown-activated “stop balance” system that enables time-setting to the nearest second.

Montblanc Heritage Pulsograph Limited Edition 100

The highlight of the six new pieces introduced to Montblanc’s Heritage collection is most certainly the salmon-coloured Heritage Pulsograph Limited Edition 100. Inspired by Minerva timepieces from the 1940s and 50s, the 40mm steel watch features the charming pulsograph function (once used by doctors to measure resting heart rates) and a number of vintage design details including indications at 3, 6 and 9 minutes on the chronograph’s minute counter to let payphone users know when they need to add another coin.

Ulysse Nardin Freak X

With a lower price point, smaller case size and a new, simplified version of the Freak Vision’s UN-250, Ulysse Nardin is pegging this model as the entry level option for Freak fans. It only appears slightly less freaky thanks to the inclusion of a conventional crown, but the time-indicating, carousel baguette movement and lack of dial that typify the collection are still present. The Freak X is available in several versions, but one reference has a carbonium case — a sustainable material used in the aeronautics industry, and a first in watchmaking.

Baume & Mercier Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar

There was a lot to love about the Baumatic when it launched last year: COSC-certification, silicon balance spring, high-performance escapement and five days of power reserve. This year’s model welcomes two more features — a perpetual calendar and an 18k red gold case. The layout is simple and elegant, and quick-change spring bars on the case make changing straps a breeze.

Laurent Ferrier Bridge One

If you don’t count the one-off edition made in partnership with Urwerk for Only Watch 2017, the Bridge One is Laurent Ferrer’s first rectangular watch. The flared lugs were inspired by the Passarelle de l’Ile bridge in Geneva, which the watchmaker recalls seeing often from his childhood bedroom. The new shaped movement uses a traditional lever escapement and runs at the brand’s standard 3Hz with 80 hours of reserve power.
